Part of Fortune in Libra: Meaning and Ruler

Good terms can be the source of wealth here: Venus signifies acquiring property and favorable agreements, as well as marriage and high office.[1] For a Libra Fortune, a well-placed Venus favors relationships that pay fairly or confer standing. The weaker reading places too much of that living at the disposal of someone whose pleasure governs the terms.

Libra belongs to the air triplicity. Saturn leads by day and Mercury by night, with Jupiter participating.[1] Those dignities add other planets to Venus’s rulership of the sign. Dorotheus goes further in his Fortune doctrine: if the first triplicity ruler fails to see the Lot but the second sees it, some assets are squandered and some remain.[3]

If neither triplicity ruler sees Fortune but benefics do, his judgment favors a livelihood through foreigners. Mixed benefic and malefic testimony gives a mixed livelihood.[3] For Libra, this makes the judgment of agreements more exact: goodwill has a better financial promise when the planets responsible for the sign can sustain it.

Nonassertion is central to Schulman’s modern Libra reading: the person is asked to release attachment to personal desire. He goes as far as treating the avoidance of natural instinct and nonassertion as routes to happiness. His point opposite Fortune, the Part of Impersonal Consciousness in Aries, holds the self-assertion that the person is asked to experience impersonally.[2]

That is a demanding spiritual position. Its satisfaction comes through participation in a larger whole and a willingness to let an immediate wish go. A preference remains recognizable, while its fulfillment loses the power to decide whether the person can feel satisfied.
