Mars can win a living or spend it in conflict
Work with fire or iron and military command can earn a living under Mars. Quarrels and the loss of property belong to the same ruler.[1] For an Aries Fortune, Mars can provide for the body in competing ways: skill earns money, while a fight over payment can eat the earnings.
The sharper judgment comes from the Book II delineation of Mars ruling Fortune in the Ascendant. Jupiter’s testimony raises status; Venus’s testimony supports an extraordinary status.[1] The martial ruler benefits from allies who can give its force a legitimate purpose and a reward. A campaign led well belongs to the favorable reading; an expensive feud belongs to the difficult one.
Capricorn is the tenth place from an Aries Fortune
An exalted Mars in Capricorn stands in the tenth sign counted from Aries. The ruler has dignity and occupies Fortune’s place of rank.[1] This is strong testimony for advancement through disciplined effort. Mars can command a workshop or a crew, with authority earned through competence under pressure.
Jupiter exalted in Cancer squares an Aries Fortune from its fourth place. As an angular benefic, it can protect the livelihood that Mars must earn.[2]
A costly struggle also belongs to Fortune
The name needs care. Obert writes, “Naming the Lot Fortune does not mean it is fortunate in the sense of good luck.”[2] An Aries Fortune can describe a skilled fighter’s livelihood as readily as a costly struggle. Mars’s strength and its benefic testimony decide which reading has the firmer basis.
