Part of Fortune in the 1st House: Meaning and Ruler

In Book II, Valens gives a favorable judgment to a properly placed Ascendant ruler connected with Fortune’s ruler: bodily endurance and good fortune go together.[1] When Fortune occupies the rising sign, those two rulers are the same planet. A ruler in its own sign or suited to the chart’s sect, the day or night planetary grouping, is a substantial advantage here.

Fortune’s bodily meaning includes the work a person can carry out and the possessions that work brings. Saturn can give success in Saturn’s own activities when Mars does not oppose it; Jupiter’s testimony improves that judgment.[1]

Strong Venus ruling a first-house Fortune from the rising sign brings bodily life and the earning of a living into Venus’s own field. Art or pleasure may pay, and being well received can have a direct financial consequence. With Saturn in charge, the emphasis moves toward enduring property or responsibilities that take time to master.
