How to read this ephemeris

An ephemeris is a table of where every planet sits in the zodiac on each day of the year. Read down a single column to follow one body, the Moon racing a sign every two and a half days or Pluto holding one sign for years. Read across a row to see the whole sky on one date. Each cell gives the position as degrees, a sign glyph, and arcminutes, so 25 18 reads as 25 degrees 18 arcminutes of Capricorn, with a retrograde mark when the planet is moving backward.

Each month opens with the turning points worth knowing: the sign ingresses where a planet changes sign, the days a planet stations retrograde or direct, the New and Full Moons, and any eclipses. Positions are given for 12:00 UTC each day and come from NASA JPL's DE440 ephemeris, referred to the true equinox of date, so they match professional astrology software to within a fraction of a degree.

How do you read an ephemeris table?

Each cell gives a planet's position as degrees, a sign glyph, and arcminutes, so 25 Capricorn 18 means 25 degrees and 18 arcminutes of Capricorn. A retrograde mark beside the figure means the planet is moving backward through the zodiac that day. The date runs down the left column, and the planet glyphs head each column across the top.
