Alpha Piscis Austrini. From the Arabic Fam al-Ḥūt al-Janūbī, the Mouth of the Southern Fish. One of the four Royal Stars of ancient Persia, where it was known as Hastorang, the Watcher of the South. Its prominence in Persian astronomy placed it as guardian of the southern sky, opposite Aldebaran (east), Regulus (north), and Antares (west).

Why Fomalhaut appears in both Aquarius and Pisces
Fomalhaut entered tropical Pisces in December 1725 and stands at 4°14′ Pisces in 2026. Robson's 2°44′ Pisces is his position for 1920. [5]
Allen reports that Ptolemy placed Fomalhaut in both the Southern Fish and Aquarius. Flamsteed followed him with the designations 24 Piscis Australis and 79 Aquarius. [1] The Anonymous of 379 says Fomalhaut co-rises with the 10th degree of Aquarius. Robert Hand identifies the fish-mouth star as Fomalhaut in his appendix. [4] That degree describes the zodiac rising with the star, rather than its longitude. The drinking Fish sits below the Water Pourer in the constellation picture; the two catalog entries record that shared position in the picture.
For a natal conjunction, use the star's tropical position at birth. A 1980 chart puts Fomalhaut at about 3°35′ Pisces, while a 2026 chart uses 4°14′ Pisces. Those minutes matter at the edge of a close contact. Check the birth-year degree before including a planet near the limit of the conjunction orb.
Venus bathing and the Fish beneath Aquarius's urn
