Aldebaran

The reddish eye of Taurus belongs to the Bull that carried Europa across the sea to Crete. Aldebaran also appears as a suitor in an Arabian story, returning with little camels to display his wealth after the Pleiades rejected him for being poor. Recognition matters here. The star's martial determination supports sustained effort and a fierce defense of position, and the tradition places integrity beside ferocity. Compromised principles are the danger inside its success. Dependence on another person's approval can make an unacceptable bargain seem reasonable. The promises made to secure a position remain part of the responsibility that comes with it.

Aldebaran by birth year

On 1 January 2026, Aldebaran stood at ♊ 10°09′ Gemini in the tropical zodiac.

It entered Gemini in November 1298.

Positions are for 1 January of each year; a star moves about 50 arcseconds a year, so a birth late in the decade sits close to the next row.

From latitudes poleward of 73.4° S it never rises, and from latitudes poleward of 73.4° N it never sets (geometric horizon, refraction ignored).

The terms of Aldebaran's honors

Robson puts integrity and ferocity in the same account. Ptolemy singles out the bright reddish Torch among the stars in the Bull's head for a Mars nature, and Hephaistio also assigns it Ares, or Mars. The Anonymous's Mars and Venus mixture adds wealth and civic responsibility as well as sexual appetite. ^{[2] [6] [3]} Being liked and getting your way become competing aims when the people whose approval you want resist your plans.

Brady describes an advantage gained at the expense of principles, followed by the possibility of rapid loss. Her heliacal rising interpretation at birth also emphasizes strongly held principles. ^[5] Robson's medical and violent predictions belong to his 1923 delineation register; read the tendency toward conflict against the whole chart. Ask what you would have to overlook to accept the offer, and whether you would accept the same conduct from the person making it. Decide that before committing yourself.

Aldebaran's public standing from Sun to Saturn

Augurine's calculator allows a 2° conjunction orb for Aldebaran. Robson's lists depend on the planet or angle involved. With the Sun, he describes perseverance and material honors, followed by disputes that can undo the achievement. ^[4] You work for recognition and defend it fiercely once it is yours. Read with Brady, the way you earned the position needs to withstand scrutiny too. A defense that requires you to conceal the terms of your advancement leaves the original compromise unresolved. ^[5]

With the Moon, reputation becomes personal. You organize daily life around being dependable to other people, and their trust helps you feel secure. Robson favors business and public credit, especially in the first or tenth house, and also includes domestic and religious matters. ^[4] Keeping a promise to a family member matters as much here as fulfilling a public appointment.

With Mercury or Venus, Aldebaran's ambition finds work in writing or the arts. Robson gives Mercury prominence through mercurial work and learned friends; Venus receives honor through literature or art, with music named explicitly. ^[4] With Mercury, your arguments and intellectual company affect your standing. With Venus, you want the work to be valued, and recognition from people who understand the art matters. Read the actual writing or music before translating the star's martial nature into a career description.

Robson gives Mars military advancement under dangerous conditions; Jupiter receives high military or ecclesiastical honor. His Saturn entry combines sarcasm with eloquence and describes a studious, retiring temperament with legal ability. ^[4] With Mars, advancement demands confrontation, and the personal cost needs to be reckoned with. With Jupiter, an office gives you responsibilities toward people who depend on your decisions. With Saturn, scholarship earns recognition, but a sarcastic answer risks alienating someone who respects your competence.

With Aldebaran on your Ascendant, taking charge comes readily. The Anonymous describes a conspicuous person capable of administering cities or districts. On the Midheaven, that capacity earns public responsibility; Robson's culminating entry gives advancement and favors from women. ^{[3] [4]} Brady pairs Aldebaran with Edward VIII's Jupiter rising and Galileo's Mars setting. For Machiavelli, she gives the Moon culminating and Mercury rising with the star. ^[5] Those are her named examples of different planets in public life. How Aldebaran became the Follower and Bull's Eye

Allen traces Aldebaran to the Arabic Follower, usually understood as following the Pleiades. He also records Whitney's explanation that the second lunar mansion followed the first. The name once covered the Hyades and their mansion more broadly; Goold's introduction to Manilius identifies Aldebaran as the brightest star among the Hyades. ^{[1] [8]} The familiar Bull's Eye is another name, recorded by Allen in Arabic and Latin. Riccioli specifies the southern eye and Aben Ezra the left. ^[1]

Against Robson's eastern assignment, Allen reports both Flammarion's Taschter in the equinoctial Royal Star account and Edkins's Sataves as leader of the western stars. Allen's Babylonian names include Ku, Leading Star of Stars, and Gis-da, Furrow of Heaven, which he connects with the Bull's former position at the beginning of the zodiac. ^{[1] [4]}

Aldebaran rising with Antares opposite

The Anonymous explains Aldebaran's exceptional prominence through its opposition to Antares. When the Bull's eye rises, he places Antares at the opposite end of the sky, and extends the prospect of fame to eastern and western regions. He also gives a Moon condition at the same degree. ^[3] Here the audience extends beyond your immediate circle. People who have never worked with you know your reputation, and your conduct has to sustain their trust without the familiarity of daily contact.

Robson treats the pair much more harshly when the Moon and a malefic occupy opposite ends. One condition puts the Moon with Aldebaran and Mars or Saturn with Antares; another puts Mars with Aldebaran and the Moon with Antares. ^[4] Read the conflict within the whole chart. With the Moon involved, feeling threatened easily becomes a reason to fight. Pause over the threat itself before deciding how to answer it, especially when the argument has already unsettled life at home.

Firmicus may mean Aldebaran when he connects an angular Moon and a bright star at the fifteenth degree of Taurus with high position. ^[7] The Anonymous's reading of Aldebaran rising centers on public esteem and civic responsibility. ^[3] For the Moon with Aldebaran, responsibility includes answering to the people whose affairs you manage, especially when they disagree with you.

Rohini and work intended to last

Rohini changes the emphasis from winning a position to beginning something durable. Robson names Alpha Tauri as its determinant star, gives Prajapati as regent and the Moon as ruler, and describes a Temple or Wagon as its image. When the Moon occupies this mansion, his favorable activities include coronations, planting trees, sowing seeds, and building towns. ^[4]

For a coronation, read the wish for an office to endure; for planting or building, read the commitment to something that takes time to mature. Robson's emphasis on permanent matters makes the expected duration of the work central to the choice. His Rohini account also gives the Moon at birth a steady and truthful temperament. ^[4] Beside the contentious Aldebaran of the natal planet lists, this is a quieter reading. The commitment includes what you are prepared to maintain after the initial effort and attention have passed.

Why Aldebaran sits in Gemini

Aldebaran entered tropical Gemini in November 1298 and reaches approximately 10°09′ Gemini in 2026. Robson gave 8°40′ Gemini in 1920. Crane also places the Eye of the Bull in tropical Gemini when explaining precession. ^{[4] [9]} Taurus identifies the Bull in the sky, while Gemini gives the longitude used for a present-day conjunction.

A planet at 10° Gemini receives an Aldebaran reading alongside its ordinary Gemini delineation. For an older birth, use the star's position for that year. Europa's Bull and Aldebaran's courtship of the Pleiades

Goold identifies Taurus as Jupiter disguised as a bull, carrying Europa across the sea to Crete. The figure shows the Bull's front above the water, with its flanks beneath the waves. ^{[8] [1]}

Aldebaran courts Al Thurayya, the Pleiades, in an Arabic story told by Allen. She had rejected him because he was poor. When he returned to woo her, he drove little camels before him to show that he now had wealth. The wealth he displayed answered the reason she had turned him away. Those camels are the smaller stars of the Hyades, beside Aldebaran, the Large Camel. ^[1]

The Bull's eye and the suitor are the same star. His pursuit suits the name Aldebaran, the Follower, which Allen explains as the star following the Pleiades across the sky. ^[1]
