Ain in Astrology
Ain, the eye of the Bull in Taurus, carries Saturn-Mercury energy that bestows steady, penetrating observation and a talent for seeing through illusions. It grants intellectual persistence and the ability to maintain focus on long-term objectives. The native possesses a watchful, evaluative intelligence that misses very little.
Mythology & History
Ain takes its name from the Arabic for 'the eye,' as it represents the eye of Taurus the Bull, sitting within the Hyades star cluster that forms the bull's face. The Hyades were the five daughters of Atlas and Aethra, half-sisters of the Pleiades, who were placed in the sky after weeping themselves to death over the death of their brother Hyas, killed by a lion or boar. Their name became associated with rain, as their rising was thought to bring wet weather. Ain, as the eye within this tearful group, carries the Saturn-Mercury nature of careful, perhaps sorrowful observation.
Taurus Context
Ain sits within the V-shaped Hyades cluster that forms the face of Taurus, close to the more famous Aldebaran which marks the bull's other eye. While Aldebaran is a foreground star unrelated to the Hyades, Ain is a true member of the cluster. The Hyades association with rain and mourning adds an emotional depth to the bull's face, suggesting that Taurus' stoic exterior conceals considerable feeling. Ain represents the more introspective, perceptive eye of the bull.
