What is White Moon Selena?

White Moon Selena is not a planet. It is a mathematical point: the lunar perigee, the closest approach of the Moon to Earth in its orbit. The Moon reaches this point once a month, and astrologers use its ecliptic longitude as a symbolic sign and house placement.

Selena is the counterpart to Black Moon Lilith (the lunar apogee). Same orbit, opposite ends. The interpretive tradition comes from the Avestan school of Russian astrology (Pavel Globa and Sergey Vronsky are the names most often cited), where Selena is often read through grace, protection, and inherited ease.[1] Augurine treats those as mythic keywords for reflection, not proof of past lives, moral credit, or guaranteed luck. For the full breakdown, read the complete White Moon Selena guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find my White Moon Selena sign?

Enter your birth date, time, and place in the calculator at the top of this page. We return the sign, the house, and the calculated longitude. If you do not know your exact birth time, the sign result is usually stable unless you were born near a sign change; the house placement needs the time.

What is the difference between Selena and Black Moon Lilith?

Lilith is the lunar apogee, the farthest point of the Moon's orbit from Earth. Selena is the lunar perigee, the closest point. They sit opposite each other on the wheel. Many astrologers read Lilith through refusal and exile, and Selena through grace, ease, and protection. Treat both as symbolic prompts, not proof of destiny or moral status.

Is Selena a real planet?

No. Selena is a calculated point on the Moon's orbit, the same way Black Moon Lilith and the lunar nodes are calculated points. It is not a physical body and you cannot observe it in a telescope. It is treated as a meaningful location in the ecliptic because the Moon reaches it every month.

What does Selena represent in astrology?

In the Avestan / Russian school where the interpretive tradition originated, Selena is often described with accumulated good karma, spiritual protection, and grace. This calculator keeps that tradition visible while treating the placement as a reflective prompt, not proof of past lives, guaranteed protection, or automatic ease.

Which Selena calculation is correct, Mean or True?

Mean Selena is the smoothed point opposite Mean Black Moon Lilith. True Selena, the point opposite True Black Moon Lilith, is not computed by this tool yet. Today we default to Mean Selena for parity with the Lilith calculator's active variants. The h56 point exposed by some older tools is neither Mean nor True; Swiss Ephemeris documentation describes it as a hypothetical point of 'obscure provenance', so we list it as reference only.

What does Selena in the houses mean?

The house placement of Selena suggests the life area where this symbolic prompt may be easiest to notice. Selena in the 7th points the question toward partnership, Selena in the 10th toward public work, and Selena in the 4th toward home and roots. House placement is more birth-time sensitive than sign.

Does Selena show up in your birth chart?

Not by default. Most chart software (including Astro.com's standard chart) omits Selena from the default wheel. You have to add it manually, usually by selecting the Additional Objects table and choosing h56 (if the software exposes it) or by calculating the point 180° opposite Mean or True Lilith yourself. This calculator does the math for you and shows the result with both sign and house.

Who uses White Moon Selena in astrology?

The tradition is strongest in Russian-language astrology (Pavel Globa, Sergey Vronsky, and the Avestan school). It has crossed into English-language astrology through a smaller set of writers including Leah Whitehorse, Annie Heese at Cafe Astrology, and a handful of independent practitioners. It is still a specialist point.

Methodology: Mean White Moon Selena is computed as the ecliptic point 180° opposite Mean Black Moon Lilith, returned as a placement in the natal response. The underlying lunar perigee polynomial comes from Jean Meeus, Astronomical Algorithms(Eq. 45.7). The sidereal variant subtracts the Lahiri ayanamsa at the birth instant from the tropical longitude. House placement uses Placidus cusps returned by the natal endpoint. True Selena requires True (Osculating) Lilith, which is not yet computed. The h56 variant is kept visible for reference only; we do not recommend it as a working Selena value because Swiss Ephemeris describes it as "a hypothetical second Moon of the Earth of obscure provenance".
