Alpheratz in Astrology

It grants the ability to attract fortunate circumstances through a combination of social grace and genuine optimism. The native moves through life with a quality of liberated ease.

Mythology & History

Alpheratz, also known as Sirrah, takes its name from the Arabic Surrat al-Faras, meaning 'the navel of the horse,' from its original inclusion in both Andromeda and Pegasus. It is the brightest star in Andromeda and simultaneously forms the northeastern corner of the Great Square of Pegasus. In the mythology of Andromeda, this star represents the head of the chained princess, positioned at the junction between her story and the winged horse that carried her rescuer Perseus. The Jupiter-Venus nature bestows freedom, grace, and fortunate connections.

Andromeda Context

Alpheratz marks the head of Andromeda, the princess chained to a rock as sacrifice to the sea monster Cetus. Her crime was being the daughter of the vain Cassiopeia, who boasted of surpassing the sea nymphs in beauty. Andromeda was rescued by Perseus, who showed the Gorgon's head to the monster, turning it to stone. The constellation embodies themes of innocent suffering, rescue from external threats, and liberation achieved through another's heroism. Alpheratz, at the head, represents consciousness and identity maintained even in captivity.
