Alderamin in Astrology

Alderamin, the right arm of Cepheus the King, carries Saturn-Jupiter energy that confers dignified authority and the capacity for grave, considered leadership. It bestows a sense of royal responsibility without ostentation, the native leads through steady, reliable presence rather than dramatic display.

Mythology & History

Alderamin takes its name from the Arabic al-Dhira al-Yamin, meaning 'the right arm,' describing its position in Cepheus the King. In Greek mythology, Cepheus was the king of Aethiopia, husband of Cassiopeia and father of Andromeda. His kingdom was threatened when Poseidon sent a sea monster to punish Cassiopeia's boast of surpassing the Nereids in beauty. Cepheus was forced to sacrifice his daughter to save his people, though she was ultimately rescued by Perseus. The star's Saturn-Jupiter nature reflects kingly authority burdened by impossible choices.

Cepheus Context

Alderamin is the brightest star in Cepheus, a constellation that depicts a crowned king standing near the north celestial pole. Due to precession, Alderamin will become the pole star around the year 7500 CE. Cepheus represents the weight of sovereignty: the king who must make decisions that sacrifice personal happiness for the welfare of his people. The right arm marked by Alderamin is the arm that carries the scepter, the symbol of authority and the instrument of difficult judgment.
