Naos in Astrology

Naos, the stern of the ship Argo in Puppis, carries Saturn-Jupiter energy that bestows the endurance and vision needed for long voyages, literal or metaphorical. It grants the native a sense of being carried by larger currents toward distant destinations, and success comes through sustained commitment to journeys that most would abandon.

Mythology & History

Naos, also known as Zeta Puppis, takes its name from the Greek naos, meaning 'ship' or more specifically the inner chamber of a temple. The name reflects its position in the constellation Puppis, the stern of the great ship Argo. Naos is one of the hottest and most luminous stars visible to the naked eye, a blue supergiant of extraordinary power. Its extreme energy output, visible as a fierce blue-white glow, gives it associations with purifying force and the kind of intensity that transforms everything in its vicinity.

Puppis Context

Naos sits in Puppis, the stern section of the ancient mega-constellation Argo Navis, the ship that carried Jason and the Argonauts on their quest for the Golden Fleece. When Nicolas Louis de Lacaille divided Argo Navis into three smaller constellations in the eighteenth century, Puppis became the stern, Carina the keel, and Vela the sails. Naos occupies a prominent position in the stern, representing the command post from which the helmsman steered the ship through treacherous waters.
