Bounds

Concept

Bounds (also called terms) divide each zodiac sign into unequal segments, each ruled by one of the five visible planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn). Think of a sign as a neighborhood divided into districts: even if you do not own the whole neighborhood, you might be the recognized authority in one particular district. A planet in its own bounds knows the local customs and has a quiet, behind-the-scenes influence. It scores +2 in the essential dignity system. This app uses Ptolemaic bounds, the most widely adopted system, where the degree ranges were standardized by Ptolemy in the 2nd century. Bounds are especially important in the Almuten Figuris calculation, where they provide fine-grained scoring at specific degrees.
