Propus, in the foot of the western twin of Gemini, carries Mercury-Venus energy that bestows intellectual grace, artistic communication, and the ability to express complex ideas with elegance. It grants a charming, persuasive quality to thought and speech, and the native possesses a natural facility for translating between different domains of understanding.

Mythology & History

Propus derives from the Greek word meaning 'the forward foot,' describing its position at the foot of one of the Gemini twins. The star is also known as Eta Geminorum and has been identified with Tejat Prior in some catalogs, though distinct from the neighboring Tejat (Mu Geminorum). Propus sits at the border where Gemini meets Taurus, giving it a quality of transition and boundary-crossing. In Babylonian astronomy, the region was associated with the great twins Lugal-irra and Meslamta-ea, deities who guarded the gates of the underworld.

Gemini Context

Propus marks the leading foot of Castor, one of the twin brothers of Gemini. The Greek myth tells of the Dioscuri, Castor and Pollux, sons of Leda by different fathers: Castor by the mortal King Tyndareus, Pollux by Zeus. Castor was the mortal twin, a skilled horseman and fencer, while Pollux was the immortal boxer. When Castor was killed, Pollux begged Zeus to let them share immortality, and they alternate between Olympus and Hades. Propus at the forward foot represents the first step into engagement, the advance toward encounter.
