Agena in Astrology
Agena, in the left knee of Centaurus, carries Venus-Jupiter energy that bestows good fortune in friendship, beneficial social connections, and the capacity for healing through relationship. It grants the native a talent for forming alliances that benefit all parties, and social networks serve as vehicles for mutual advancement and support.
Mythology & History
Agena, also known as Hadar, takes its name from the Arabic for 'the knee' and marks the left knee of Centaurus, the great centaur of the southern sky. The Greeks identified the Centaur with Chiron, the wise and gentle centaur who tutored heroes including Achilles, Jason, and Asclepius. Unlike the wild, drunken centaurs, Chiron was civilized, learned, and devoted to the healing arts. Agena's Venus-Jupiter nature reflects this wise, beneficent character.
Centaurus Context
Agena is the second-brightest star in Centaurus, paired with Rigil Kentaurus (Alpha Centauri) as the centaur's front hooves pointing toward the Southern Cross. Centaurus is one of the largest constellations, rich with mythology about the bridge between animal instinct and civilized wisdom. Chiron's wound, inflicted accidentally by Heracles' poisoned arrow, could never heal despite his mastery of medicine, making him the archetype of the wounded healer. Agena at the knee represents the grounded foundation from which healing wisdom operates.
