Achernar in Astrology
Achernar, the end of the River Eridanus and the ninth brightest star, carries Jupiter energy that bestows success through sustained, flowing effort and the capacity for bringing long endeavors to a successful, expansive conclusion. It grants the native a talent for navigating the full course of complex projects and arriving at destinations of genuine significance.
Mythology & History
Achernar takes its name from the Arabic Akhir al-Nahr, meaning 'the end of the river,' the same phrase applied to Acamar, but Achernar lies much further south and now marks the true terminus of Eridanus. It is the ninth-brightest star in the sky and one of the flattest stars known, spinning so rapidly that its equatorial diameter is more than fifty percent larger than its polar diameter. In southern hemisphere cultures, Achernar served as an important navigation marker, and the Aboriginal Australians associated it with an eagle.
Eridanus Context
Achernar marks the absolute southern end of Eridanus, the longest constellation in the sky, representing the great celestial river. While Acamar was the ancient terminus visible from Mediterranean latitudes, Achernar extends the river's journey far into the southern sky, representing the furthest reach of any journey, the point beyond which the known world simply ends. The constellation's mythology of the river of Phaethon gives Achernar associations with the ultimate consequence of reckless ambition, but also with the peace that follows catastrophe.
