Regulus marks Magha near six degrees of Leo
Robson identifies Alpha Leonis, Regulus, with Magha.[3] Avelar and Ribeiro list Regulus at 29°50′ tropical Leo for 2000.[5] With a rounded J2000 Lahiri offset of 23°51′, that becomes 5°59′ sidereal Leo, within Magha’s second pada.
Regulus has the nature of Mars and Jupiter in Avelar and Ribeiro’s account; they associate it with honor and a desire for power. Its difficult expression is power misused, with violence and destruction among the traditional judgments.[5]

Simha Sankranti falls at the start of Chingam
Simha Sankranti is the Sun’s entry into Leo. The Malayalam solar month Chingam begins around this August transition and opens the Malayalam calendar year. Uttara Phalguni arrives near the end of the Leo month, usually September 13, with its remaining padas extending into Virgo.
