Semisquare

Aspect

A semisquare forms when two planets are approximately 45 degrees apart. It carries the same friction as a square, but at a subtler level you're tempted to ignore. A square is like twisting your ankle -- you must deal with it immediately. A semisquare is a pebble in your shoe: annoying enough that you notice it, small enough that you keep walking and tell yourself it's fine. Eventually, though, that pebble gives you a blister. This minor aspect manifests as nagging irritation, restlessness, or consequences of issues you've been avoiding. Because it's easy to dismiss, semisquare tensions tend to build until they erupt through external events or small crises. In the aspect cycle, the semisquare is the first friction point after a conjunction -- the moment a new impulse bumps up against existing structure. Most modern chart readings skip this aspect entirely, and that's a mistake. Semisquares are where the small, chronic frustrations live.
