Opposition

Aspect

An opposition forms when two planets sit directly across the chart from each other, about 180 degrees apart. Think of a seesaw: when one side goes up, the other goes down, and the work is learning to keep it level. Oppositions create a pull between two competing needs, and they often play out through relationships, where you attract people who embody the side you're neglecting. Someone with Moon opposite Mars might feel deeply emotional but keep attracting forceful, assertive partners, because they haven't yet claimed their own assertiveness. When balanced, oppositions offer a wide perspective that neither planet could achieve alone. Unlike a square, which creates friction you feel internally, oppositions tend to show up as external confrontations -- the tension gets projected outward until you learn to own both sides. In the aspect cycle, the opposition is the full moon moment: maximum illumination and a turning point.
