Schedar in Astrology

Schedar, the breast of Cassiopeia the Queen, carries Saturn-Venus energy that bestows dignity, queenly bearing, and authority achieved through patience and social grace. It grants a combination of regal ambition and aesthetic sensibility, and the native commands respect through composed, elegant self-presentation.

Mythology & History

Schedar takes its name from the Arabic al-Sadr, meaning 'the breast,' describing its position on the chest of the seated queen Cassiopeia. In some Arabic traditions it was called the heart of the queen, emphasizing its central position in the constellation figure. The star carries the regal vanity and maternal pride associated with the Cassiopeia myth. Schedar's orange-red hue, visible to the naked eye, lends it a warm, vital quality that distinguishes it from the cooler white stars of the surrounding constellation.

Cassiopeia Context

Schedar is the brightest star in Cassiopeia, the vain queen of Ethiopian mythology who boasted that her beauty surpassed that of the sea nymphs, the Nereids. This hubris offended Poseidon, who sent a sea monster to ravage the coast, forcing Cassiopeia and her husband Cepheus to sacrifice their daughter Andromeda. The constellation sits in a distinctive W shape near the north celestial pole, visible year-round from northern latitudes. Schedar at the queen's breast represents the heart of her pride and the seat of her regal bearing.
