It grants a warm, faithful nature and the capacity for dedicated partnership. The native thrives in relationships defined by mutual loyalty and shared purpose.
Mythology & History
Cor Caroli, meaning 'Heart of Charles,' was named by Edmond Halley in honor of King Charles I of England, who was executed during the English Civil War, or possibly Charles II, who was restored to the throne. The name was supposedly inspired by the star shining with particular brightness on the night of Charles II's return to London in 1660. This explicitly royalist naming gives the star a unique political mythology: it represents the heart of a king, the courage of sovereignty under persecution, and the restoration of rightful authority.
Canes Venatici Context
Cor Caroli is the brightest star in Canes Venatici, the Hunting Dogs, a small constellation representing the two dogs Asterion and Chara held on a leash by Bootes as they chase the Great Bear around the pole. The constellation was created by Johannes Hevelius in the seventeenth century. Cor Caroli's Venus nature gives it a gentler, more refined quality than one might expect from a hunting dog constellation, suggesting the nobility of well-bred hounds rather than the savagery of wild predators.
