Saros 16 North: Eclipse Family in Astrology

A gentle family of eclipses that bring a sense of inspiration or the illumination of ideas. The presence of the Uranus-Neptune combination talks of the sudden release of material from the unconscious that brings with it a great deal of insight. These ideas are good, and the individual would be wise to act upon them.

Uranus forms a trine to Neptune, and Venus is on the midpoint of the New Moon/Mercury.

The 16 North record includes activations in 1905, 1923, 1941, 1959, 1977, 1995, 2013, 2031, and the next will be in 2049. The series has moved from Pisces through Aries, Taurus, and into Gemini.

The 1905 eclipse in Pisces arrived during the period when Einstein was developing his special theory of relativity and the Fauvist painters were shattering color conventions, both expressions of sudden insight from unconscious sources. The 1923 eclipse coincided with a period of extraordinary artistic innovation, from surrealism to the Harlem Renaissance, movements powered by access to unconscious material.

The 1941 eclipse in Aries brought the inspirational quality into wartime innovation, where necessity forced creative leaps in technology and strategy. The 1959 eclipse coincided with the dawn of the space age, a period of visionary thinking becoming reality. The 1977 eclipse arrived alongside the punk and new wave movements, which channeled sudden, raw inspiration into new artistic forms.

The 1995 eclipse at 8 degrees Taurus grounded the inspiration in material and sensory expression, while the 2013 eclipse at 19 degrees Taurus continued this embodied quality. The 2031 eclipse at 29 degrees Taurus will be the last in that sign, and the 2049 eclipse will bring the inspirational energy into communicative Gemini.

From 1900 to 2050, Saros 16 North has progressed from Pisces through Aries, Taurus, and into early Gemini. The 1905 eclipse fell at 14 degrees Pisces, with one more Pisces eclipse following (1923 at 25 degrees). The series entered Aries in 1941 at 5 degrees and produced three eclipses there (1941, 1959, 1977). The transition into Taurus came in 1995 at 8 degrees, continuing through that sign (2013 at 19 degrees, 2031 at 29 degrees). The 2049 eclipse will enter Gemini at approximately 10 degrees.

This progression from mystical Pisces through pioneering Aries, sensory Taurus, and into communicative Gemini has gradually shifted the medium of inspiration, from spiritual vision to personal creative assertion to embodied artistic expression to intellectual and verbal forms.
