Detriment

Detriment is the most severe essential debility. A planet is in detriment when it occupies the sign directly opposite the one it rules: Mars in Libra, Venus in Scorpio, Jupiter in Gemini. Think of being forced to live in a house designed for someone with the exact opposite personality, the furniture is wrong, the thermostat is set to a temperature you hate, and the neighbors play music you cannot stand. The planet's energy is still there, but it must express itself in ways that feel unnatural and require extra effort. Detriment scores −5 in the essential dignity system. However, 'debilitated' does not mean 'broken' - many successful people have debilitated planets that drive them to develop resilience and creative workarounds precisely because nothing came easily.
