Modality

The twelve signs are grouped into three modalities that describe different approaches to getting things done. Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) are the starters, they initiate action and launch new projects. Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) are the sustainers, they dig in, deepen, and see things through with determination. Every season of the year follows this pattern: a cardinal sign begins it, a fixed sign deepens it, and a mutable sign winds it down.
