Birth Time
ConceptAn accurate birth time is essential for calculating your Ascendant (Rising sign), house cusps, and the Moon's precise position. Without it, roughly a third of your chart remains unknown. You can still learn a lot from planets and signs, but you're missing the architecture that organizes everything -- like having furniture but no rooms to put it in. Because the Ascendant changes sign roughly every two hours, even a difference of a few minutes near a sign boundary can shift it, significantly changing the chart's interpretation. The house system, planetary rulerships, and the entire structure of transits all hinge on that Rising degree. Birth times can usually be found on birth certificates or hospital records, though accuracy varies by country and era. If you don't know your exact time, many astrologers use a noon chart or whole-sign houses as a starting point. Some practitioners specialize in rectification, working backward from major life events to deduce a likely birth time.
