Astrological Influence
Heu, meaning 'Void,' is the twenty-second Chinese sieu, corresponding to Sadalsuud (beta Aquarii). Ruled by the Sun, this mansion's name evokes emptiness, potential, and the fertile nothing from which all creation springs.
The void is not absence but possibility: the blank canvas, the empty vessel, the silence before the music begins.
In the Chinese Sieu System
Heu belongs to the Black Warrior palace, where the void represents the deepest point of Winter's stillness. The Sun's rulership seems paradoxical for a mansion called 'Void,' but light illuminating emptiness is precisely how potential becomes visible. In Chinese philosophy, the void (xu) is the source from which all phenomena arise.
Lunar Influence
When the Moon transits Heu, the void opens. This is a period for meditation, emptying the mind of preconceptions, and creating space for new possibilities to emerge. The Sun's illumination ensures that the emptiness is clarifying rather than frightening.
Celestial Palace
The Black Warrior (Xuan Wu), also called the Dark Warrior, is the celestial guardian of the North and the season of Winter. Associated with the element Water, the Black Warrior is depicted as a tortoise entwined with a snake, representing the union of endurance and cunning, stillness and movement. The North is the direction of depth, mystery, and the storage of vital energy during the dormant season. The seven sieu of the Black Warrior trace the composite creature through the cold, deep regions of the sky, forming the most mysterious of the four celestial animals.
